This week I’m going to do a wee wrap up of the Budget (although if you’re anything like me, Budget-fatigue probably hit you 2 hours into Budget Day, if not earlier) and share some thoughts about how it’s going to shape the landscape in the public sector for the rest of this year, as it’s mid-June already.

Kia ora koutou and welcome to another edition of Policy Buzz. Budget 2019 is only two days away from announcement so I thought I’d wrap up what’s been drip-fed so far, and make some predictions about where money will be spent in the coming year.

It’s now May and this year has seen a shift in focus from the announcement of new policies and direction. What does this mean for contractors?

2019 is certainly shaping up to be a year of activity (and possibly even delivery) – you can’t walk into a government department without tripping over a review. Environment, education, health, welfare, justice – every subject matter and policy discipline looks like it’s getting a once-over. Tight time frames to get findings in front of Ministers and Cabinet are a common theme, meaning a fast-moving contract market.

Wellbeing Framework – What is it? Who owns it? How does it affect me? Everyone wants it and everyone wants someone who can lead it. 

Saying you want diversity within your team is all well and good but when it comes down to it, what does that actually mean and is our public sector really that diverse?

State Sector and Crown Entities Reform Bill - Is it lip service or good service? Is the wheel being reinvented? Sure, it makes a lot of sense for agencies to collaborate and work toward shared policy goals, but how easy is it really in this current frame work? And do you think this Reform Bill will make any difference?
