Worried about your interview style and feel you could do with some improvement? The best person to ask is usually the person who’s interviewing you.
When you’re talking to a recruitment consultant in an interview, it’s a good time to ask about your interviewing skills. Recruitment consultants can give candidates tips on how to succeed in job interviews – which can cover everything from the candidate’s presentation to the way they answer interview questions to illustrate their capabilities. If there’s something specific troubling you about how you perform in an interview, they can probably help you work out ways to either prevent the problem, or reassure you!
You might feel uncomfortable about the idea of pointing out weaknesses... so another way to get advice is to ask an “open” question about your performance. For example, you might want to try something along these lines:
“I’d love to get some feedback on my interview, so I can better align my style to the organisation’s successful employees.”
Remember that your recruitment consultant has a working relationship with the hiring managers you’ll be interviewing with, and will be able to give you lots of advice on how you can brush up your interviewing skills to better demonstrate your suitability for the role.
