Dave on KEA, talking about life as a migrant to New Zealand

We arrived at work this morning to discover the latest KEA newsletter in our inboxes - and who do you think was the profiled member? Why, our very own Dave Wish, The Johnson Group's Senior Recruitment Consultant. Dave migrated to New Zealand from the UK, and is loving his life here--it's a shame, though, about the weather right now!

IPANZ Excellence Awards: The Prime Minister's Award for Public Sector Excellence

It's not often that the public sector has a chance to be congratulated and recognised for its work. Swine flu and the public sector

One of the new jobs I've posted today is a call for a Health Protection senior policy professional, a contract job focussed on helping New Zealand respond to the swine flu pandemic. My email is full of with advice from Campbell (our General Manager) on how to prepare for the swine flu. And I noticed that the Public Service Association's website is running a poll related to the swine flu: Do you think you should have to use up your leave or take sick leave if you are quarantined?

New Zealand's Budget '09

Back in May The Johnson Group team watched the budget on Parliament TV - as I'm sure everyone else with an interest and investment in the public sector and the future direction of New Zealand's government did. There were a few surprises, although the media had flagged most of the proposed budget developments well before they happened. Now, a week and a half later, we're getting a better sense of the impact on Government and the public sector that the budget will have, and which areas of the public sector will see key investment in new projects.

Meet the Chiefs, IPANZ public sector new professionals event.

Kirsty and I have just returned from a fantastic event organised by IPANZ New Professionals and sponsored by Russell McVeagh - Meet the Chiefs. It feels pretty exciting to be able to say we just came back from having breakfast with Iain Rennie (State Services Commissioner) and Peter Hughes (CE of Ministry of Social Development).

How do you recruit the best public sector team? A message for public sector managers.

Over the past few weeks our Director of Business Development, Leigh, has been putting some of her thoughts on paper around the changing labour market. She’s penned this short article around the questions that public sector managers may want to think about when they’re interviewing new staff, and what a candidate-rich market means for your hiring policies.

Future-planning for the public sector

A while ago I was thinking of putting together some material around future-planning - a particularly important issue to think about in an economic downturn. Luckily, someone else had written a much better article than I could already.
