A trip to Fiji - with a purpose

Being the founding Director of The Johnson Group might suggest that Leigh Johnson is now able to sit back, relax and enjoy the successes. However for those who know or have worked with Leigh before it should be no surprise that she is still actively involved in the background as well as being a successful business mentor. Post Budget Reaction 2011

The much anticipated budget last week didn't fail to raise a few eyebrows, with the government looking to return to surplus and cut the 16.7% deficit as soon as possible. The previous two budgets have seen government spending remain high regardless of faltering core crown revenue in order to support the economy - which of course ran up high debts - but the government believes that the economy is stable enough to tackle this national debt.

Budget 2011

With the Budget due for release in two weeks, there has been heated debate in Parliament in recent days around where the government will focus its spending to boost the economy. The Hon. Bill English (Minister for Finance) has said that the budget will focus on three main areas - building faster economic growth around higher national savings, setting a credible path back to surplus and the repayment of national debt, and rebuilding Christchurch over the next few years.

‘The youth is the hope of our future’

In a Parliamentary debate recently, the Minister for Social Development and Employment - the Hon. Paula Bennett – was questioned on the success of the Government’s job opportunities programme. Her response was that 10,000 young people had been given work through the programme and while slightly less than half had completed the placement, approximately 70% of these had secured either full or part-time work. The Hon. Minister was suggesting that this figure, which amounted to 3,190 young people, was a success for the government programme.
